This family owned company is going through an exciting period of change as they evolve their business model to meet the changing needs of the retail sector. They are currently experiencing substantial growth via their e-commerce channels whilst also maintaining steady revenues from supplying national and local retailers. Working with trusted manufacturers overseas they currently operate from a large design and distribution facility supplying products throughout the UK and also to a growing export market in the US and Europe. The key to this business is driving sales and improving margin so the Financial Controller will play a key role working with the Directors to ensure they get best value from all activities, advising them closely on strategic initiatives, contributing actively to decision making and driving change. Working as part of a small finance team this will be the number one finance role on site and will have the following responsibilities:
- Preparation of the management accounts
- Customer and product profitability analysis
- Sales and margin reporting and analysis
- Reviewing costs, warehouse overheads and stock
- Weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts
- Managing foreign currency, liaising with brokers and banks
- Preparing budgets and reforecasting
- Supervising AP / AR, credit control and payroll
- VAT and company secretarial matters
- Preparation of stat accounts and audit liaison
The business has recently invested in key senior appointments in design, marketing and IT and the Financial Controller will be expected to form close relationships with each department providing financial support and analysis to drive out costs and improve efficiency. They have recently implemented a new ERP system and there will be the opportunity to review and improve reporting processes as the business evolves, in particular providing timely information allowing them to adapt to the needs of their online sales channels and digital marketing efforts. The company is continuously developing new products to meet the needs of their customers so the finance department needs to be agile enough to ensure these meet market demand in a cost effective and profitable manner.
This is a great opportunity for someone with experience at Financial Controller level to join a profitable business going through a transition following investment to keep up with changing consumer habits. Applicants must be CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified ideally with retail / e-comm experience and for the right candidate this could become a Finance Director role in the future.
