This great opportunity would suit a commercially minded accountant looking for a broad role in a growing SME. Following a recent buy-out the MD is looking for someone to take ownership of the finance function to develop the controls and reporting processes required to help them pursue an ambitious growth strategy.

The business provides services and equipment so good commercial knowledge, in particular around contracts will be a significant benefit in this senior position. As this will be their first Finance Manager you will be required to be hands on in all areas of the finance function and constantly looking to develop systems and procedures to help the business run more efficiently, whilst also providing financial support to the management team to assist with commercial decision making and risk analysis. The main responsibilities for this Finance Manager position will be:

  • Managing the transactional accounting needs of the business
  • Preparing monthly management accounts with commentary
  • Forecasting, budgeting and cashflow management
  • Managing WIP and contract profitability
  • Developing MI to suit the needs of the business
  • Controlling debtors and managing invoice factoring
  • Preparing the year end accounts and VAT returns
  • Responsible for HMRC matters, payroll, sub-contractors etc
  • Liaising with external advisors, banks etc.

The preferred candidate for this role should have a strong grasp of accounting systems, in particular SAGE and Xero software, you will also be comfortable operating other business systems, extracting information to prepare reports and where possible automating and improving to drive the timeliness and accuracy of information flow.

My client is looking for someone inquisitive with the drive and determination to be part of a growth journey and can offer an excellent opportunity to progress within the business, potentially to FD level in the future. Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Company Accountant or Financial Controller is essential along with an awareness of the challenges and flexibility required in a growing business. A professional accounting qualification is preferred but not essential.
