This established professional services firm is looking to recruit a Financial Controller to manage the finance function and advise the partners on strategic issues and growth opportunities. This will be a senior role within the firm and will incorporate elements of practice management and business partnering to drive performance.
As Financial Controller you will supervise a small, efficient finance team who generate the numbers. A key part of your remit will be to manage cash flow, identify and monitor profitable and non-profitable work and create robust controls and processes to forecast and compensate for dips in revenue. Experience of managing WIP and long-term assignments will be very important. You should be adept at detailed commercial analysis to advise and challenge budget holders on efficient allocation of their time. The ability to develop systems and processes to improve management information, efficiency and profitability will be a key expectation with this appointment.
The ideal candidate must be confident and credible, with the personal gravitas to stand up to other well qualified individuals (not financial), you must also be capable of liaising with external funders and other regulatory bodies to meet compliance requirements. This opportunity will also encompass project work to benefit the wider business. To be successful you must have excellent analytical and data manipulation skills with the ability to articulate and present financial information in a meaningful way to other professionals.
The business has ambitious plans and is currently going through a transition period that will set them up for further growth, revenue is approaching £4m and the senior management have an appetite for more. Previous experience from a services or fee earning environment will be useful but not essential. You will be expected to take on projects to benefit the wider business and a broad skill set encompassing finance, legal, insurance, HR etc. will be required. The role is viewed as a full-time position although reduced /part-time hours could be considered.
