This is an opportunity to become the trusted financial lead within a successful owner-managed manufacturing business and play a key role in its next stage of growth.
Our client is a growing business supplying innovative, high-performance products to the construction sector. They have recently moved premises to a new state of the art facility in Blackburn and have invested heavily into their production and waste management facilities, in addition to staff welfare and training. With an annual turnover in the region of £8m they have strengthened the management team across key departments and are now looking to appoint a Financial Controller to become a trusted business partner to the Managing Director and leadership team. They are looking for a practical, commercially minded individual who would enjoy being the no.1 finance professional in a growing company. This role will offer direct exposure to the business owners and key decision makers providing them with the financial insight and controls to confidently grow the business.
The successful candidate will have full responsibility for the day to day operation and management of the finance department, duties will include:
- Producing monthly management accounts, KPI’s and management reporting
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning
- Provide analysis of financial performance to support decision making
- Monitor working capital, improving margin and driving profitability
- Monitor banking relationships and funding facilities
- Oversee transactional activities, bank rec’s, payments, credit control
- Authorise supplier payments, payment runs and monitor debtors
- Ensure robust financial controls and processes
- Prepare VAT returns, statutory filings and liaise with HMRC
- Manage year end and liaise with external accountants
- Maintain financial data in Xero and ERP systems
A key part of this role will involve making improvements across the business by working closely with operational teams to improve financial awareness, reporting and visibility of performance and profitability metrics. You will also be tasked with driving automation, process improvement and the efficient use of systems ensuring the finance function supports the future growth aspirations of the business.
Applications will be welcomed from candidates with an understanding of manufacturing accounting, stock, costings, margins and ERP systems. The role is likely to appeal to a Senior Management Accountant looking to step up into a role leading a finance department, or an experienced Finance Manager / Financial Controller with an SME background wanting a new challenge. The position will be office based and offers long term stability with a growing, successful business.
